AJARA

Brief History :

Ajara has known to be one of the southernmost Taluka of Kolhapur District. It has well known for its scenic and green landscape, heavy rainfall and the production of Ghansal Rice. Ajara is 84 km from Kolhapur and only 33 km from Amboli hill station.

Ajara has situated on the Kolhapur- Amboli Road in the banks of River Chitra and River Hiranyakeshi. There is evergreen wide forest area. Ajara is the birthplace of late Shree Shivajirao Sawant, who wrote some of the famous novels like Chhava, Yugandhar, Mrutunjaya and many more.

Amboli, a hills station and the Ramtirth Waterfall lie near Ajara, which attracts tourist in large of numbers. Surrounded by dense tropical forests of Sahyadri, Ajara has well known for heavy rainfall and the production of Ghansal rice.

Ajara is located at 16.12°N 74.2°E. It has an average elevation of 660 metres (2165 feet).
